Ferro Chrome Purpose

HOME > News
High-carbon ferro chrome (4-8% carbon), medium-carbon ferro chrome (0.5-4% carbon), low-carbon ferro chrome (0.15-0.5% carbon), micro-carbon ferro chrome (0.06% carbon %), ultra-fine carbon ferro chromium (with carbon content less than 0.03%), metallic chromium and other ferro alloys are important alloying additives for steelmaking.

1. Definition
As one of the main synthetic agents in the iron and steel industry, ferro chrome is a ferr oalloy whose main components are chromium and iron. In addition, it also contains some impurities such as carbon, sulfur, and phosphorus. Ferro chrome is classified into high-carbon ferro chrome, medium-carbon ferro chrome, low-carbon and micro-carbon ferro chrome in terms of carbon content. There is also nitrogen-containing ferro chrome containing N2%-10% used as a nitrogen alloy agent, also known as ferro chromium nitride.

The main role of ferro chromium in steelmaking is to use it as an alloy additive, which will be added in the late stage of steelmaking refining. When smelting low-carbon steel such as stainless steel, low-carbon ferro chrome and micro-carbon ferro chrome are needed, so the production of refined ferro chrome once had a relatively large-scale development. Due to the improvement of the steelmaking process, when producing stainless steel and other steels by the AOD method, carbon ferro chrome is used to charge the furnace, so it is only necessary to add low-carbon ferro chrome to adjust the composition in the later stage, so the production of ferro chrome is mainly the refining of carbon Plain ferro chrome.

2. Purpose
The addition of ferro chrome can enhance the corrosion resistance of steel, and ferro chrome is added to many steels with physical and chemical properties. High-carbon ferro chromium is used as an alloying agent for ball steel (0.5%-1.45%Cr), tool steel, die steel (5%-12%Cr) and high-speed steel (3.8%-4.4%Cr), which can improve the quenching of steel Permeability, increase the performance and hardness of steel. Adding chromium to cast iron can improve the hardness.
